Walk:Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Saturday 8th August 2015 — 10.00-10.15 a.m. meet at Skipton Railway Station.

A walk along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Airedale, starting from Skipton and finishing at Silsden (Distance 6½ miles).

Meet between 10.00 and 10.15 at Skipton Railway Station (OS Ref SD983513) which is situated on Broughton Road (A6069), half a mile west of Skipton town centre. The walk will commence at 10.15 a.m.

The majority of the walk is along the canal towpath with a half mile of field footpaths (no stiles) at the end. Lunch will be taken at the White Lion in Kildwick, an attractive canalside village.

The return to Skipton will be by train from Steeton & Silsden station (OS ref SE037448).

Parking and Travel Arrangements

At Skipton Station the all-day parking charge is £6, purchase ticket at machine. Please note that £2 of the parking charge is refundable by showing the parking ticket when purchasing a rail ticket at the booking office. At the end of the walk we will be returning by train from Steeton & Silsden railway to Skipton (15 minutes journey). In order to obtain the £2 parking discount it is advantageous to purchase your rail ticket at the station booking office before commencing the walk. Standard single fare from Steeton to Skipton is £3.30 (£2.20 with a Senior Rail Card).

An option for any frugal minded individuals is to park on the large free car park at Steeton & Silsden Station and from there travel on the 09.37 train departure that arrives Skipton at 09.50, in ample time for the start of the walk.
